- Tertiary qualification - National Diploma in Safety Management
- Technical safety course (e.g. SAMTRAC)
- SHE auditing skills (OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001)
- SHE Implementation skills (OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001)
- Behavioural Training
- Assertiveness
- Sound communication skills
- Understanding of Isometrix
- Risk Management skills
- Incident investigation skills
- Good report writing skills
- Sound SHE Legal knowledge
Functional outputs
- Ensure shopfloor legal compliance (verify statutory inspections, implementation of legal requirements)
- Implementation and maintenance of SHE management systems
- Ensure implementation of Legal and SHE management system requirements on shopfloor Facilitate implementation of Company’s Fatal Risk Standards
- Report weekly and monthly SHE Statistics
- Develop and implement SIP’s
- Facilitate and develop SHE training where required
- Ensure adequate contractor control (in line with construction regulations)
- Conduct internal audits
- Manage incident investigation process (report, investigate, close-out)
- Arrange assurance processes (external audits, hygiene surveys, etc.)
- Drive Risk Management Process (Identify, mitigate, review)
- Report SHE performance to Branch Management
- Drive BBS Process (Pact re-inforcement, VFL, collection and analysis of observation statistics)
General
- Management of all SHE staff.
- Oversee entire SHE function.
- Conduct and attend meetings, provide presentations
- Manage MoC process (where required)
- Co-ordinate incident investigations and assist in formalising remedial action to prevent repeat incidents
- Report to the Plant Manager with regards to any risk changes
- Ensuring adequate emergency preparedness (including managing emergency situations e.g. explosions, fires etc)
- Performing of ad hoc SHE related functions as deemed necessary by the Plant Manager / Divisional SHE manager
- Monitoring achievement of SHE targets / objectives
- Regularly attend SHE Toolbox meetings
- Ensure overall alignment with Group Strategic plan
- Compile and execute training needs analysis
- Apply for legal permits as required
- Audit SHE Critical suppliers on annual basis
- Drive Golden Rule compliance
- Communicate legal responsibility and requirements to employees through formal training sessions or one on one discussions
- Assist in developing, and drive implementation of Safety Improvement Plans
- Communicate Company’s Safe, Health and Environmental Way requirements to employees / leaders
