Argent Industrial Limited, first called the Scharrighuisen Group, began in 1972. At the time Scharrighuisen families settled in South Africa from Holland in order to execute certain earth-moving contracts which they had secured. The business developed and the Scharrighuisen Group became aware of opportunities in the industry. They successfully addressed these markets. On 28 September 1989, the Group was listed on the JSE. September 27 1999 is when the Scharrighuisen Group changed their name to Argent Industrial Limited. The Group is predominantly a steel merchant; steel trading makes up about forty three percent of their Group turnover. Companies that beneficiate or add value to steel either via manufacturing or through steel service centres, makes up thirty seven percent of the Group. Activities of the Group are based in Gauteng, Northern Province, Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Mpumalanga and North America.
