First Rand Bank Limited was established in 1998 as the result of a merger between the First National Bank of South Africa, Rand Merchant Bank and Momentum Insurance & Asset Management. They provide banking and insurance services and plans to trade, corporate and public sector clients. They are listed on both the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and the Namibian Stock exchange and is one of the largest and most prestigious financial services organisations in Southern Africa. They are the parent company of four different financial institutions: First National Bank (Retail and Commercial banking), Rand Merchant Bank (Corporate and Investment banking), Wesbank (Instalment finance) and Ashburton Investments (Investment Management). It also has various subsidiaries in five neighbouring Southern African countries (Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho Mozambique and Zambia), India and Australia. They also plan to possibly expand to Nigeria, Angola and two other countries.

It's a great company to work for. I worked at some of the branches (Rural & Metro) as well as Corproate (Head Office at BankCity) and loved it! I was with the group for almost 9 years and sadly had to leave in 2005 due to personal reasons. My recommendation: if you have the opportunity to work for this group (especially RMB), go for it! It is such good exposure to the corporate world (if that's your thing)
