The Government Printing Works (GPW) was established in 1888 after the House of Assembly authorises for the government to establish a proper government printing press. It has a long and varied history of manufacturing security printed matter, such as passports, ID’s and visas as well as all other related and official documents, production and distributing services for South African government institutions. Presently, it is seen as one of the most progressive security printing authorities in all of Africa. It boasts of an ultra modern production, printing and distribution plant with world-leading, technologically advanced equipment. Some of their other major services also include the printing or publishing of the Government Gazettes on national, provincial and local scale, as well as maps, atlases, aviation logbooks and more. They also offer secure services like rubberstamps document securitising trough specialised laser technology and credit, debit or smartcard manufacturing.
