Legal Aid South Africa is an organisation with a mandate to ensure that all South Africans have access to justice, with no regard to their social or financial status. Established in 1969 as an independent statutory body, Legal Aid provide legal services to South African citizens who might not have the resources to afford the cost of a legal representative. In terms of the number of lawyers employed, they are the largest law firm in the whole of Africa. They roll out legal services to the poor and vulnerable, distinguishing and making themselves a model for the implementation of legal aid services to the rest of Africa and abroad. Legal Aid South Africa’s intention is enhance justice and public confidence in the law and the administration of justice. The company uses four service delivery channels in order to fulfill their mandate and realise their mission: 1. Justice Centres, 2.Cooperation Agreements, 3.Special Litigation, 4.Other cost effective and efficient ways of accessing justice. As mentioned, the company employs the largest amount of lawyers.
