Skills

  • Consistently work to quality standards
  • Basic writing skills for key client documents using a range of appropriate styles – editorial and business copy; briefing materials, releases, features, case studies, social media content, newsletters, web site copy, mini-proposals, by-lined contracts, etc.
  • Build media relations skills – making and keeping contacts; handling journalist enquiries; creative pitching of stories; knowledge of media landscape
  • Demonstrate an ability to pitch stories and find creative angles
  • Listening for conversations online and adding value whilst subtly bringing the brand into focus
  • Identifying conversations, top commentators and influencers that could lead to ambassador building
  • Be able to work with various social media platforms and understand the types of content that works best with each
  • Spotting opportunities for media or social media conversation building
  • Develop a positive working relationship with client

 

Administrative/agency operations

  • Manage (and build) own profile within team
  • Effectively use and manage own time and demonstrate an understanding of the importance of deadlines
  • Demonstrate effective time reporting
  • Develop activity plans and compile status reports
  • Develop familiarity with the organisation, support the company’s core values
  • Demonstrate proactive and positive contribution at all times
  • Demonstrate familiarity with current affairs and business issues
  • Strong proficiency in all Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook (or other company-preferred applications)
  • Ensure client / media databases are up to date and effectively managed

  • Develop editorial planning, follow up and evaluation
  • Understand the wider marketing mix to support the team in maximising revenue opportunities
  • Demonstrate growing awareness of industry-sector: key players and issues
  • Develop research skills plus analysis and assimilation of information
  • Develop confidence to contribute own ideas to planning or brainstorm meetings
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of client’s business and competitors

Account management and strategic thinking and planning

  • Begin to build account management skills; take responsibility for specific projects
  • Build account management skills including budgeting and cost management
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and effective use of day-to-day resources (on and offline)
  • Contribute to budget and programme planning
  • Prepare and plan for projects
  • Manage client expectations

 

Business development

  • Attend and contribute to brainstorming process
  • Provide research on industry topics, issues and competitors in support of the new business process
  • Contribute to slide development, offer creative input and ideas rationales to new business process
  • Start to develop presentation skills for pitches

 

People Management

  • Begin to build supervisory skills by coaching and assisting graduates and interns
