Purpose of the Role:
As an Analyst you will work as part of our Retirement and Investments team in our Cape Town office on a wide variety of complex projects. You will serve as a key resource for the consultant in charge of each of your engagements by performing many intricate aspects of the client work. As you grow and gain more expertise, you will have the opportunity to become a key contact for the client, which will include attending meetings and presenting work. This role would be suitable for an actuarial (or very strong non-actuarial) candidate with suitable financial/investment experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Quarterly and monthly investment reports for various clients
• Investment strategy reviews for clients
• Calculation of member monthly return allocations (unitisations)
• Contributing to the team’s activities across a portfolio of actuarial consulting clients involving all aspects of advice (predominantly on asset side with potential for liability aspects)
• Perform actuarial valuations of pension, provident and benefit funds. These funds may be defined benefit or defined contribution in nature
• Perform valuations of client company liabilities (such as post-retirement medical aid schemes, share options, etc.) in terms of relevant legislation or guidance notes
• Manager performance fee calculations and verification
• Automating various client reporting processes, updating and maintaining processes as required, documenting processes
• Asset allocation rebalancing, preparing investment instructions
• Investment manager performance attribution calculations
• Complete work in accordance with Government regulations surrounding pension plans
• Seek and participate in key learning and development opportunities
• Prepare the first draft of deliverables for review by the consultant
• Assisting other consultants with any relevant investment consulting issues
• Liaise effectively with colleagues and clients regarding data collection, analyses, and project execution
• Valuation and collateral monitoring of Liability Driven Investments
• Calculation of member reserve values on both individual and group bases

In addition, there will be scope to get involved with project work relating to various aspects of employee benefit consulting, e.g. on the conversion of retirement funds to defined contribution, cost impacts of company actions like restructuring, and benefit comparisons.

Qualifications:
• Bachelors Degree required with actuarial specialisation or other suitable degree

Experience:
• Up to three years of relevant/transferrable experience

Key Competencies:
• Advance experience with MS Excel and MS Word
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels
• Ability to work both independently and on client teams and enjoy a fast-paced environment
• Ability to juggle several different projects concurrently and deliver on all of them
• Conscientious and detail focused
