A candidate is sought to complement the existing function within the Engineering Department to further the implementation of the scrum project management methodology in the capacity of Scrum Master serving one or more development teams. The successful candidate will be instrumental in the implementation and maintenance of Scrum or any other agile methodology that is put into practice. The role of the Scrum Master is to evangelise agile practices in the organisation and to play a supporting role in resolving problems that impede team progress.

Over and above this, the successful candidate will fill a dual role as an extension to the existing Technical Solution Manager function in actively participating in technical discussions that lead to innovative solutions and an improvement to Client’s internal and external product offering. The candidate will also liaise with departments external to Engineering to communicate the progress and status of initiatives as well as assist in fostering ever improving interdepartmental cooperation and coordination.
Key Responsibilities
As a Scrum Master in one or more teams the following will apply:

Enabling the scrum team to deliver software as efficiently as possible, by identifying and removing impediments, and coaching the team to adopt a continuous improvement approach, both when the team is working on new feature
• development and customer support
• Ensuring scrum practices and principles are followed by your team and encouraging the adoption of techniques to improve quality and predictability
• Encouraging your team to be self-managing, and protecting the team from external influences
• Establish collaboration as the team norm and remedy inappropriate behaviour
• Resolve conflicts within your team and also between your team and external parties
• Use information radiators to ensure the team’s progress is always up to date and visible to all interested parties
• Working with the Product Owner to maximise the productivity of the team, and ensuring that the team are focused on delivering functionality with the highest business value
• Working with the Product Owner to ensure release plans exist for the product generated using team estimates.
• Define and track metrics for quality delivery, team productivity and adoption of scrum
Define and adapt existing documentation and reporting to fit with the agile process, but also facilitate management reporting.
Core competencies
• Advanced Computer Literacy (PowerPoint. Excel, Email, Calendar Management)
• Experience with Scrum or Agile development
• Previous project management, team leadership or mentorship experience advantageous
• Solid understanding of Agile development process
• Balanced knowledge, respect and appreciation for all disciplines required to build a software product
• Enough technical experience and skills to dive into details with team members to help remove impediments regardless of whether it’s a development, test, scope, or documentation issue
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Strong facilitation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
• Good analytical and problem solving skills
• Good leadership skills are required to influence and gain cooperation with team members and customers
• Ability to identify and manage impediments to closure quickly
• Understanding of techniques to ensure quality throughout delivery life cycle
• Excellent time management skills
The ability to both act tactically and strategically
Education and Experience
• Exposure to agile methods, particularly scrum
• Certified Scrum Master or Certified Scrum Product certification highly advantageous
• Experience in software/system development industry
Tertiary education in related field highly advantageous
