Agricultural Technical Manager/ Agronomist, - Ref: 905458-4
Looking for an experienced, hands on, practical degreed Agricultural Technical Manager who is prepared to move to Tanzania,
to assist in the rehabilitation of a sugar estate comprises +/- 8000 ha of cane land under various types of irrigation, undergoing major expansion.
To mentor and develop highly qualified junior Agronomists and Agricultural Engineers. High energy levels with large sugar estate experience at a senior level that is interested in working in Africa.
Position details:
Reports to: Agricultural Manager.
Reporting, total staff compliment: Junior Agronomists and Agricultural Engineers – requiring mentorship, practical training and transfer of knowledge.
Key internal relationships: Agricultural Operations and Outgrowers Operation Managers. Workshop Manager, Human Resource Manager.
Primary purpose: To manage the technical aspects of a large irrigated sugar estate – typically irrigation design and scheduling, soils and crop nutrition & general Agronomy.
Job description / core competencies:
Providing growers and operations with technical support in terms of agronomy: crop nutrition, weed control, seed variety selection, pest control and irrigation, maintenance programmes and management information. Monitor soil and cane quality and nutritional requirements. Control and establishment of fertilizer programmes. Oversee the seed cane nurseries to ensure availability and good quality of seed cane. Developing appropriate crop nutrition programs and facilitate fertilizer and Chemical Supplies.
Job Qualification & Experience:
Must have had large estate experience at a senior level. Technically astute in agronomy and irrigation.
Bsc. degree with Agronomy or Agric engineering
