One of South Africa’s leading companies in the Media and Entertainment space is on the lookout for 4 talented Developers to develop applications for mobile devices on the Android platform. Application focus is on ease-of-use, intuitive interfaces, engaging experiences and covers a wide range of functionality.
Developers operate in an Agile environment, with contribution to the product roadmap, and work from user stories. Developers are expected to provide estimates in terms of story sizes and deliver on sprint commitments.
The Clients environment is entrepreneurial with a start-up culture, where everyone engages in the product development cycle.
 
Mobile Application Developer The successful developer will have a track record of development of applications which will have been submitted to the Google Play app store and must have an understanding of what defines an application experience on a phone or tablet, as opposed to a web application.
Experience of developing applications with a strong video focus will be a definite advantage.
 
Roles and Responsibilities

• Understanding user stories and providing estimates to sprint planning sessions
• Knowledge of the user experience on a phone or tablet environment, and the design guidelines for those platforms
• Active engagement with the team on all areas of development
• Code review of peers’ work
• Knowledge and experience of best practices such as test-driven development, continuous integration, continuous deployment
• Analysing requirements through the breakdown of user stories and an understanding of the interdependencies of the stories
• Strong experience in the platform being developed for (Java and the Android SDK or Objective C/Cocoa)
• Devising possible solutions to anticipated problems
• Working as part of a team, which may be established purely for a particular project, to write a specific section of the program
• Combining all elements of the program design and testing it
• Thorough unit-testing of the code written
• Conducting testing and installing the program into production
• Reacting to problems and correcting the program as necessary
• Evaluating and increasing the program's effectiveness
• Adapting the program to new requirements, as necessary
• Conducting user acceptance testing to ensure the program can be used easily, quickly and accurately
• Updating, repairing, modifying and developing existing software and generic applications.
• Constantly keep up to date with emerging trends and practices in device application development

Qualifications Needed

• Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a Computer Science, Engineering or Maths related discipline.
• Proficiency in programming languages like C, C++, iOS, Java, Objective-C, etc. is the main qualification.
• Basic knowledge of interface design and development can be an added advantage.
