The SPCA Lower South Coast seeks to appoint an Animal Welfare Inspector/Animal Welfare Assistance, based in Margate.

This is a full-time contract position.(Please do not apply if not qualified)
Responsibilities:

Perform inspectorate functions for the Lower South Coast SPCA in adherence to relevant Acts and NSPCA Rules;
Respond to cruelty complaints and situations where the health and safety of animals is threatened;
Perform investigations relating to the inspectorate function;
Take proactive actions in order to promote the welfare of animals;
Keep records relating to inspectorate functions performed in accordance with prescribed procedures;
Liaise with other internal units and with external role players to promote animal welfare;
Report to the General Manager and other senior staff in accordance with internal procedures;
Promote the interests of the SPCA movement.
Requirements:

Minimum of a Matric;
Animal Welfare Assistance (Approved)
Successfully completed the National Inspector’s examination;
Valid Code 8 driver’s licence with an SAPS clearance certificate;
Basic knowledge of and experience in animal care;
Effective verbal communication skills in English and preferably in some local languages;
Basic English written communication skills sufficient for clear and accurate report writing;
Basic administrative and record keeping skills;
Good interpersonal skills for dealing with difficult persons in situations relating to animal welfare;
Abilities and willing to work after hours and at irregular hours.
