PBT Group has a requirement for an Application Administrator & Developer based at our head office in Century City, Cape Town.
 
Job Purpose:
The position entails the administration, maintenance, support and development of various in-house applications.
 
The role requires the discipline and structure to perform the administrative aspects (administration), an in-depth understanding of the application functionality (maintenance), the ability to communicate with users (support), as well as the necessary technical expertise (development) and trouble-shooting abilities.
 
Duties:
- Application administration and management
- Application maintenance
- Application licensing and license management
- Supporting application users
- Software installation and upgrades
- Troubleshooting technical issues and managing problems
- Monitoring application / website usage
- Website updates and maintenance
- Developing custom SharePoint applications / solutions
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Previous experience in a similar role (with emphasis on administration)
 
The existing application suite consists of the following:
- OFFICE365 – online platform for Exchange, Outlook & Office licensing
- APACHE - PHP application server
- TOMCAT- JAVA application server
- MySQL database
- MS SQL database
- JIRA – Atlassian Bug Tracking Tool
- CONFLUENCE – Atlassian Wiki
- SVN – Version Control
- SHAREPOINT – Microsoft Collaboration Platform
- VMWARE – Virtual Machine software
- POWERSHELL – scripting for Microsoft Services
 
This role requires a basic knowledge of the following programming languages:
- SHAREPOINT, HTML, CSS, JAVASCRIPT, SQL, C#, JQUERY
 
Other knowledge:
- Basic understanding of web services
- Basic web development knowledge
- Understanding of Virtual Machine deploying and maintenance
- Working via command line i.e. Putty and PowerShell
 
Solid knowledge of:
- SharePoint Online and On-Premises
- Apache and Tomcat – how to start, stop and configure
- Linux (Ubuntu / Debian based OS)
- Windows Server – basic administration and setup
- Structured and disciplined approach with administrative tasks
- Strong troubleshooting ability and results focused approach
- Good oral and written communication skills and excellent attention to detail
- Self-starter who works well independently and in teams
