Our client is a leading supplier of Ophthalmic Surgical Devices worldwide.

We have an opportunity in the Western Cape for an Application Specialist, Ophthalmology within our client’s surgical division. We are looking for an individual who has experience in selling surgical devices in theatre. Understanding of Phaco and its application would be essential.

This position would suit a senior sales representative who has the ability to build the brand in the Western Cape and develop relationships with 'Key Opinion Leaders'.

Responsibility 1: Manage Sales
Planning
• Analyse competitor strategies and tactics and stay abreast of latest developments in the market and analyse market trends
• Acquire and maintain specific knowledge on all areas related to the success of the product portfolio
• Develop, present and implement sales and marketing strategy
• Meet or exceed defined territory sales objectives
• Meet or exceed the defined territory growth objectives and market share goals in accordance with agreed priorities
• Manage a sizable basket of Ophthalmic products
• Maintain an in-depth understanding of products and how each product is best used

2: Customer Relations
• Ensure healthy relationship with current and potential customers
• Gather customer requirements to ensure customer satisfaction
• Generate orders from customers
• Maximise time spent with the customers by correct monthly call planning
• Maintain good relations and communication with internal customers i.e. Customer Services, Finance Department, Logistics and management
• Monitoring and controls to ensure achievement of unit sales objective

3: Sales Achievement
• Achieving or exceeding agreed sales targets
• Adhere to company strategy and promotional messaging
• Develop and manage key accounts/customers
• Achieve to agreed call rate by customer type
• Responsible for the delivery of value added services to targeted key accounts to create increase utilisation of products
• Identify potential sales and marketing opportunities

Responsibility 2: Training
1: Training Events
• Give demonstrations of products and have thorough knowledge thereof
• Train new customers on range of products
• Participate in the companies cycle and sales meetings and provide input to Business Unit Manager concerning local practices

Responsibility 3: Administrative Duties
1: Reports
• Adhere to credit policies and procedures
• Maintain all administrative responsibilities re monthly report, sales territory management system and submit within required time frames
• Ensure all sales activities comply with legal and ethical standards
• Managing business expenses within the budget provided

REPORTING STRUCTURE:
Reporting to: REGIONAL SALES MANAGER WEST - SURGICAL
Number of direct reports: NONE

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Successful completion of a Science / Optometry Degree or other relevant tertiary qualification
A minimum of 3 years sales experience in the Healthcare Industry
Experience selling surgical equipment
A strong sales background, with a proven track record of achieving targets.
Demonstrate ability to network and build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

TECHNICAL AND BEHAVIOURAL SKILLS:

• Ability to work in a dynamic structure and ability to work under pressure
• Strong general computer literacy with intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
• Good organising skills
• Work independently, time management and planning skills
• Excellent coaching and facilitation skills
