Area Manager: Waste Management

R30 – 35 000 per month (Cost to Company)
Directs and coordinates the operation of the Gauteng Solid Waste branch. Responsibilities entail accountability based on measurable cost effective results for the substance, efficiency, productivity and quality of activities performed by the division.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
• B Degree with major course work in environmental planning and management; environmental studies; solid waste planning or the physical sciences and business administration
• 5 year’s experience in similar position with considerable management of people
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans, coordinates, and directs all facets of solid waste management for the area
Oversees and evaluates sites for compliance with laws, regulations, and ordinances
Account management, client liaison and new business development where possible
Analyzes resource utilization and identifies potential areas of improvement by implementing new improved solid waste collection and disposal systems
Determines standards and equipment necessary to ensure operational efficiency
Conducts cost/benefit analysis of current and proposed solid waste management systems at clients
Works closely with contractors and other representatives of the solid waste industry to provide effective services
Prepares reports, investigates complaints and assists with client relations as needed
Develops and implements policies on matters pertaining to solid waste activities and safety on sites
Monitors the work of staff for conformance with policies and practices and provides assistance when problems arise
Attends meetings and provides technical assistance covering solid waste programs at clients
Prepares long-range plans for the division that include financial analysis and project review
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises a total of 50-60 employees in the Gauteng area. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the region. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies. Ability to effectively present information to management or clients. Ability to negotiate and resolve conflicts.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and deal with an extensive variety of variables.
