Assistant Lab Manager

SM Healthcare Placements is inviting applications from suitably qualified individuals for the position of Assistant Lab Manager in Durban, Kwazulu Natal for an exciting role within a Clinical Laboratory Organisation in the medical field.

To oversee operations within Clinical Laboratory in respect of Technical and Quality management and to deputise for the Laboratory Manager when required in the day-to-day management of the Clinical Laboratory.

The following are the qualifications, experience, knowledge and attributes requirements:

Education, Training and Experience

• National Diploma in Medical Technology (Clinical Pathology / Chemical Pathology)
• HPCSA registration as Medical Technologist Clinical Pathology / Chemical Pathology
• 4 years experience within a Clinical Pathology / Chemical Pathology laboratory
• 1 years working experience as a Senior Medical Technologist within a Clinical Pathology / Chemical Pathology laboratory
• Understanding of pathology test procedures
• Knowledge of instrumentation and methodologies
• Theoretical knowledge of test processes
• Knowledge of Quality Control
• Computer skills
• Communication skills
• Financial Acumen
• Training skills
• Presentation skills
• Supervision certificate and/or diploma
• Knowledge of the Meditech system
• Basic Conditions of Employment Act
• Basic Employment Equity Act
• Knowledge of IT dictionaries
• Knowledge of Materials Management
• Negotiation skills

• Processing of routine bench work in laboratory in order to ensure efficient processing of specimens.
• Manage Quality in the laboratory in order to ensure best practices are upheld.
• Assist with Operational Management in order to ensure operational priorities and initiatives that may be required.
• Supervise and Train laboratory staff in order to ensure that the goals of the department are achieved.
• Monitor Technical performance in the laboratory in order to ensure efficient specimen flow in the laboratory.
• Assist with Financial Management within the department in order to control expenses and ensure the correct allocation of funds.
• Maintain good client relations in order to promote the image of the Company
