Your valuable time will be spent:

Preparing and drafting of correspondence including responses to client enquiries, routine correspondence, accounting enquiries in accordance with client standing instructions
Dealing with urgent matters and client requests
Prepare and file Trade Mark applications, including electronic filings with follow through to registration and post-registration, maintenance and renewals
Providing opinions and quotes on the register ability of Trade Marks in Africa and international territories
Prepare and file Powers of Attorney and letters of instruction
Drafting correspondence and agreements
Researching law and drafting opinions
Conducting trade mark availability searches and drafting search reports
Preparing and filing South African trade mark applications
Prosecution of South African trade mark applications
Attending to South African trade mark renewals, assignments and other recordals and formalities
Drafting commercial IP agreements and attending to IP due diligences
Advising on the IP aspects of mergers and acquisitions and other commercial transactions
Attending independently to smaller matters and aspects of larger matters
Requirements

Skills and knowledge

Excellent language skills (good command of English both written and verbal)
Must understand the debiting procedures
A meticulous, responsible person with a sense of urgency, who is able to prioritise duties
A conscientious, loyal and dedicated person, with the ability to think laterally
Someone with a professional attitude
Ability to give clear instructions to a secretary
Prepared to work long hours where necessary
Ability to work independently and under supervision
Ability to handle the pressure of having to cope with large workload
Knowledge of relevant Acts – e.g. Trade Marks Act, would be an advantage.

Qualification/s

Admitted attorney
Trade Marks Prosecution experience
Commercial background an added advantage
Qualified Trade Marks Practitioner or busy with SAIIPL exams
Experience of working in an IP firm (Intellectual Property) will be highly advantageous
2 or more years post articles experience
