Job Purpose:
Lecture and conduct research in the subject area of English Communication. This is an upgraded post from the position of lectureship, for the purpose of raising the standard of scholarship in the Department, by initiating some research projects in the Department and to providing a mentor for some junior staff members and supervising postgraduate students up to doctoral level. The appointee will still perform all the functions of academics which include teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level, supervising students on Teaching Practice, community engagement, curriculum development, academic administration and conducting research.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
• A doctoral degree in English or Linguistics
• At least 6 years' relevant teaching experience at tertiary level
• A recognized teacher's or university teaching qualification
• Record of research outputs: Publications in peer-reviewed accredited journals; presentation of papers at professional conferences; postgraduate students supervised to completion in the language field
• Recipient of research grants and awards
• Experience as external examiner/ moderator
• Experience in Curriculum development
• Evidence of recognition as leader/high stature in the field nationally and/or internationally
• Experience in dealing with 2nd and 3rd language students in a tertiary environment
• Evidence of innovative teaching
• NRF-rating a recommendation
