Teach and assess undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Classical Studies (Classical Mythology and Civilisations) using appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment methods and technology.
Recruit senior students for postgraduate study.
Provide study guidance and supervision for final year and postgraduate students.
Contribute to programme development and curriculum review within the department and faculty.
Publish peer reviewed research outputs in accordance with the requirements of the University of the Free State.
Advance own area of independent research in Classical Studies, ensuring a commitment to the highest standards of ethics and integrity in research.
Perform administrative duties relating to teaching, research and institutional obligations.
Contribute towards creating a strong academic identity for the department.
Take a leadership role in helping to accomplish the department's long-term vision.

PhD in Classical Studies (Classical Mythology and Civilisations).
Latin and/or Greek (Classical and/or Hellenistic) on at least third year undergraduate level.
Proven experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules in Classical Studies.
Proven experience in supervision of graduated Master's and/or Doctoral students.
Experience as external examiner for postgraduate students.
An NRF rating of C3 or equivalent status.
Proven experience in the presentation of research papers at national and international scholarly conferences, where there is evidence of peer review of papers.
Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a specific scientific area of scholarship.
A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
