The position will be responsible for the management of the automated assembly and packing lines at the company facility. The process control engineer is a manufacturing professional who applies his/her extensive automation control skills in the effective running and optimisation of the facilities and processes under his/her control.
Working Conditions:
The successful candidate will be a key member of the manufacturing management team and will interact with various functions including sales and marketing, vendors, and other departments.
A number of subordinates report to the position, which includes maintenance technicians and production personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for process control implementation and optimisation
- Achieve productivity, quality and safety targets for the plant
- Interacting With Computers - Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information
- Daily responsibilities include solutions implementation and provide technical direction and leadership in achieving team goals
- Comply with the Explosives Act and Regulations as well as with all Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental requirements
- Drafting, Laying Out, and Specifying Technical Devices, Parts, and Equipment - Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used
- Deal with application and software problems related to process control and support production teams in using process control applications
- Provides technical expertise and trouble shooting in day-today support of operations activities
- Demonstrate understanding of the project team's goals and provide appropriate technical guidance on design and engineering issues
- Making Decisions and Solving Problems - Analysing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems
- Interact extensively with, management, sales and marketing personnel, and support personnel in ensuring the smooth operation of automation controls
- Manage external process control vendors
- Project management is a large part of the job, and upon completion of each project, detailed documentation of the project from inception through completion is required
- The process control engineer needs to keep abreast of emerging technologies and applications to guarantee a competitive edge in the industry
- Support operations, maintenance and continuous improvement projects with problem solving and quality assurance efforts
- Continual optimisation of the manufacturing processes to lower unit cost, increase efficiency, improve process utilization, and improve product quality
- act as a trainer/mentor on statistical concepts, theories, and applications to drive improved understanding and usage of process control tools and methods throughout the Process Development and Manufacturing organisation
- Evaluating Information to Determine Compliance with Standards - Using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards
- Review and maintain control logic and PLC’s
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in mechatronic, electrical, electronic, mechanical or computer engineering or a related field
- At least 5 years experience as a control engineer in manufacturing of high volume products
- The Process Controls Engineer shall have and demonstrate skills in requirements gathering, design, configuration, integration and implementation of process control solutions for the manufacturing plants, including software, PLC / DCS systems, HMI packages, SCADA systems, Visual Basic and PC networking technology.
- The ideal candidate must have knowledge of process manufacturing instrumentation, technology and process manufacturing expertise
- In-depth knowledge of testing, start-up procedures, and system integration options
- Excellent written and communication skills
- The engineer must have demonstrated proficiency in the development and management of process control solutions, from collecting data through the design, configuration, and integration processes
- Must be competent in programming and the development and implementation of engineering guidelines and standards
- Must have proven experience with any of the following PLC’s: Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, etc.
- Must have proven experience with relevant HMI or SCADA software packages
- Knowledge is required in automated manufacturing and software programming
- General manufacturing process knowledge, in a data driven, high volume, environment
- Excellent technical aptitude and skills, computer literacy, experience with control hardware, programmable controllers and material handling systems
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and consistently meet deadlines and schedules
- Ability to read, analyse and apply complex technical data
- Proven problem solving capabilities
- Able to respond positively to changing requirements and pressures
- Strong analytical problem-solving and data analysis skills
- Effective organizational and decision-making abilities
- Ability to effectively handle multiple activities simultaneously and successfully function in a cross functional manufacturing environment
