Automation Engineer
Introduction

Ensure optimum plant automation and instrumentation availability. Optimise automation systems in order to reduce workload and increase efficiency. Attend to breakdown and preventative maintenance activities/tasks.
Description
RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure adherence to HACCP, quality standards, procedures, policies and practices
Minimize stoppages and increase plant availability by implementing plant maintenance
Assist with the development of the annual maintenance budget.
Ensure that maintenance tasks are executed within budget (i.e., reduce spare parts consumption where possible and attempt to curtail costs associated with breakdowns)
Continuously identify cost effect ways of delivering world class service, identify cost saving initiatives and recommend improvements
Participate in and lead (where appropriate) maintenance specific problem solving initiatives
Ensure that all required maintenance documentation is completed property: use information to analyse machine performance (i.e., establish trends, etc.) and identify improvements
Ensure optimum plant automation and instrumentation availability.
Optimise automation systems and operator aids in order to reduce workload and increase efficiency
Upgrade old and redundant equipment
Perform fault finding, upgrades and process optimisation on all Siemens PLC systems (S5 and S7), SCADA (WinCC) and Wonderware) and redundant SQL servers and Allan Bradley.
Remain up to date on the latest technological advancements and sourcing better equipment equivalents as appropriate
Manage contractors (quality of work and procedures)
Participate in projects, factory acceptance tests, and in assembling, commissioning and decommissioning lines

REQUIREMENTS

Trade: Qualified Instrument Technician
N6 Instrumentation
5 years of work experience in instrumentation within a FMCG environment / food industry
Exposed to technical root cause analysis methodologies
Software packages (preferable):
Siemens Step 7
Win CC
Wonderware Window Viewer and Window Maker
GX Developer Mitsubishi
Allan Bradley – Pro Logix 5000
Siemens
Equipment (preferable):
All Siemens equipment especially S5 and S7 PLCs
Sound knowledge of drives
Good with industrial IT
SQL Servers
SCADA systems
Profibus PA/DP
Asi Communication
Ethernet Communications
