ROLE PURPOSE

Lead and manage a team of analysts who are responsible for enabling business to make meaningful decisions through the provision of data analytics and insight. Develop innovative BI solutions, including BI dashboards and applications, as well as make recommendations for continuous improvement efforts that enable business objectives

RESPONSIBILITIES AND WORK OUTPUTS

• BI Development
• Managing the optimisation of output quality, report and tool maintenance
• Investigating and implementation of new data sources, fields and definitions
• Developing BI applications on web and mobile to support the efficient and paperless delivery of information required for key critical business decisions
• Liaising with business and graphic designers where needed to optimise dashboard layout and visual aspects of all BI applications
• Being able to follow agile development approaches to always keep applications relevant and up to date
• Keeping abreast with latest BI technologies and make recommendations where needed
• Document requirements and specifications for BI application and processes
• Contributing to peer review process to support the design of artefacts within data mart and assessment of solutions for feasibility, re-use and extensibility
• Designing BI solution within the context of the BI Architecture and parameters of business processes
• Testing solutions to ensure that the business objectives have been satisfied accurately
• Assisting MI teams and business enabling self-service BI
• Data Modelling 
  o Keep abreast of data structures and data within the data warehouse. 
  o Design relevant data models needed for BI application or dashboard 
  o Work with the relevant warehouse teams to assist with additional requirements to deliver BI applications 
  o Effective metadata management to enable consistence and transparency on all data assets
• Management 
  o Manage daily operational activities within your team 
  o Ensure accurate provision of analysis and interpretation of data in line with business needs 
  o Ensure adequate infrastructure and resourcing 
  o Manage the collaboration between teams by ensuring dependencies and activities in the various areas are communicated effectively and reasonable support is provided. 
  o Manage staff effectively by providing appropriate leadership and guidance 
  o Attract, recruit, retain and grow quality staff through effective motivation 
  o Training and development, on-the-job coaching 
  o Engage with the business and stakeholders to understand their business intelligence requirements and challenges 
  o Identify opportunities to improve existing business intelligence solutions
• Continuously monitor turnaround times and quality standards and resolve issues speedily to enhance client service delivery
• Creating a positive work climate and culture to energise employees, give meaning to work, minimise work disruption and maximise employee productivity.
• Controlling the budget for area, including the authorisation of expenditures and implementation of financial regulations

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• 5 years’ experience data analysis and interpretation, stakeholder engagement and interaction, managing teams of specialists.
• Experience with any BI development application tool including Microstrategy, COGNOS, Qlikview etc
• Graphical or story board design experience
• Ability to design and develop different data models including Kimble or any relational model
• SQL or any other ODBC database skills
• Experience in handling large volumes of data
• Process engineering advantageous
• BSc Degree in Informatics, Business management or Information Technology
