Brand Manager - Cape Town

The following position has become available within the Marketing Department of a large listed company. This position will operate from their Cape Town Head Office. This new position will report to the Marketing Manager. In support of the company’s Employment Equity Plan, applicants from designated groups will be given preference for this position. KEY JOB OUTPUTS • Implement the international brand and food service strategy to deliver the organisation’s vision and long term objectives, primarily through the successful launching of the brands and building of sustainable equity in diverse markets. • Custodian of all elements of the brands outside of South Africa and across the EU (including profitability, pricing strategy, product range, brand equity). • Understand current and future consumer & customer needs and buying behaviour of the category across targeted geographic regions, working closely with the international sales team and in country distributors. Commissioning and interpreting research to these ends. • Drive the development of an appropriate product mix in line with consumer/customer needs and available supply for each market, leading them through the value chain. • Own the marketing of the brand in the Food Service sector (initially in SA), with special attention to supermarket delis. • For new and existing markets: o Build the brand portfolio and develop the brand equity through compelling and targeted market appropriate advertising campaigns developed in conjunction with Agencies and rest of international team. Lead digital strategy for international markets. o Develop and ensure delivery of a multilingual marketing “tool kit” for the brand for implementation by distributors across markets. Maintain Brand “Bible”. o Champion new business development and new product launch deployment o Develop and implement promotional campaigns to drive sales (in-store, trade shows etc) o Documenting Brand & Marketing plans (incl. competitor landscape etc). o Setting & managing marketing /promo budget, including reconciling & forecasting • Leverage relationships with key stakeholders such as distributors, key customers, advertising and research agencies. • Work multi-functionally, with sales, technical, supply chain, procurement, IT and finance as well as rest of marketing team. • Understand the value chain and importance of the business process relating to the procurement of raw material. • Significant travel (up to 20% of time) to various markets including across Africa, Indian Ocean Islands and Europe. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ATTRIBUTES • Proven leadership ability • Strong analytical skills • Good administrative skills and attention to detail • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English) • Organised and professional working style • Accountable and adaptable • High values of integrity and confidentiality • Strong collaboration skills, working effectively with all levels, functions & cultures. • Strong initiative and drive with the ability to deliver results without supervision QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE • Bachelor’s degree, ideally in marketing • Extensive knowledge of brand management • Strong understanding of the African market and consumer • 3 – 5 years in a brand management experience within the FMCG industry • Computer literate in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook (Intermediate/Advanced level) • Knowledge of West African markets would be an advantage
