Job description
Our company is excited about the prospect of recruiting a seasoned business development manager from the freight forwarding industry to develop the perishable portfolio for airfreight. This role reports to the National Airfreight Manager: South Africa and will be based in Johannesburg. The successful candidate will be responsible for development of new and existing customers to expand the air perishable cargo portfolio for both imports and exports.
Responsibilities will include:
• Identifying and targeting new opportunities across all business units for Perishable Air Logistics.
• Streamlining the perishable operations process to increase productivity and efficiencies
• Optimising processes to meet customer requirements and satisfaction.
• Creating and implementing a revenue-generating plan by adding and retaining customers.
• Identifying and targeting new opportunities across all business units for Perishable Air Logistics.
• Take full responsibility for the department budget and profitability of the perishable business.
• Maintain the relationship with suppliers, airlines and foreign offices within the company network.
• Ensure invoicing, debt management and inventory management is handled in line with best practice.
• Follow up on trends in industry and perishable branch.
• Innovate/ renovate supply chain solutions to gain a competitive advantage on the market.
• Ensure solutions are unique and flexible in order to meet customer’s requirements.
• Act as a sound board for customers and management in order to support in relevant projects.
• Developing of opportunities for sales.
• Take initiatives to improve and renew key processes.
• Building relationships with key individuals of customer organizations to understand opportunities and create value for company's perishable
logistics.
• Collecting resources within the organization to take advantage of opportunities to create value.
• Works closely with the team to develop creative solutions for the needs of the customers.

Your skills and experience
• Relevant Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent in Logistics or Business Management is essential for this position.
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience within the International Freight, Transportation and Logistics industry with a focus on Airfreight
• Proven track record with excellent skills in business development within a perishables environment.
• Proven ability to develop suitable solutions and negotiate this with potential and existing customers to reach a commercially viable solution
• Ability to apply business principles and procedures to work assignments and work closely with a team to achieve objectives
• Proven ability to analyse data and explain complex financial information
• Proven problem solving skills
• Proven ability to build relationships with customers
• Demonstrated ability to communicate and influence credibly and effectively at all levels
• Exceptional attention to detail
• Effective time-management skills
• Have proven verbal and written communications skills in English
• Advanced level of computer literacy (especially Excel) and ability to learn new software with ease.
