Introduction

As a Business Development Manager you will be responsible for managing customer accounts where you will be responsible for forming strong relationships with key decision makers. Your objective will be to become a trusted sales partner and support each account by developing solutions which meet their current and future needs.

You will be responsible for developing new public sector business. You will proactively seek out new business opportunities by generating your own appointments and follow up on leads from internal teams, seminars and events and seek to establish a network of contacts and referrals which you will personally prospect for new business opportunities.

This role will suit a proactive and ambitious sales professional.

The Incumbent will be responsible for:

• Identifying trendsetter ideas by researching industry and related events, publications and announcements and tracking of key individuals and their accomplishments
• Locating or proposing business deals by contacting potential clients and discovering and exploring opportunities
• Screening potential business deals by analysing market strategies, deal requirements, potential and financials. Then evaluate options, resolving internal priorities and recommending solutions
• Developing an in-depth understanding of negotiating strategies and positions by studying integration of new opportunity with company strategies and operations and then examining risks and potentials and estimating clients’ needs and goals
• Providing effective account management to existing accounts, maximising revenues and identifying new business opportunities
• Closing new business deals by coordinating requirements, developing and negotiating contracts and integrating contract requirements with business operations
• Ensuring follow-up by passing leads to relevant Stakeholder/Specialist with calls-to-action, dates, complete profile information, sources, and so on.
• Protecting organisation’s value by keeping information confidential
• Keeping management informed by submitting activity and results reports
• Using marketing data using applicable sales management software tools to maximize sales efficiency and effectiveness.
• Maintaining accurate records; including sales call reports, expense reimbursement forms, billing invoices, and other documentation.
• Assisting in creating RFP responses to potential clients.
• Resolving client complaints by investigating problems; developing solutions; preparing reports; making recommendations to management
• Updating job knowledge by participating in continued professional development such as reading professional publications and maintaining personal networks
• Following up on leads which have been proactively identified or which have been provided through internal teams to develop and win new business
• Attend seminars / events and proactively network at these events to grow pipeline and business
• Develop business plans to bring on and develop new and existing accounts
• Acquire competitors insight on products, pricing, marketing performance, strengths and weaknesses
• Achieve growth and retention targets
The applicant should meet these requirements

• FAIS compliant
• Financial Markets understanding
• Travelling is a prerequisite of the role
• Actuarial degree or related qualification
• Sales skills (e.g. account management and relationship management)
• 7+ years’ experience in the public sector selling financial products and should be able to demonstrate previous success in this sector
