A well-established FMCG retailer based in DURBAN requires a Butcher to be responsible for all meat processing, recipes, recipe compliance, freshness and range offering to meet customers expectations and to improve sales and overall butchery contribution to store sales.

Salary package is highly negotiable based on experience gained.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
• Improving sales and overall butchery contribution to the store.
• Processing and preparing various meats such as veal, poultry, pig, etc. as per the production plan or customer demand.
• Developing new recipe proposals and proposing it to the butchery supervisor to enhance the meat range.
• Offering recommendations to customers regarding different recipes in order to help the customer in choosing a suitable meat.
• Ensuring all items are displayed correctly, priced properly on the butchery counter as well as ensuring the correct weighing and packaging of meat products.
• Ensuring all meat products on the display are fresh and in sellable condition.
• Training local butchers in order to improve the meat processing and food safety standards.
• Communicating with the local staff and butchers to enhance the local range offering.
• Conducting regular stock take by monitoring ingredients, placing orders and ensuring the display counters are replenished with fresh foods.
• Maintaining immaculate cleanliness around the butchery counter and meat processing area and ensuring the area is neat at all times as well as the meat processing equipment and machinery.
• Ensuring compliance with food safety standards in the butchery department.
• Assisting customers with orders and delivery as required and ensuring delivery is on time.

Minimum requirements for the role:
• Minimum matric.
• 3 years’ experience working within a similar role within butchery production.
• Must have the ability to communicate fluently in English and Portuguese.
• Excellent customer communication skills.
• Must be passionate for customer service and sales.
• Knowledge of basic food safety and hygiene standards.
• The ability to work well under pressure.
• Must be able to solve problems as well as work well with limited supervision
