BUTCHERY SPECIALIST – Durban

Purpose of the Position:
The purpose of this position is to provide an effective and efficient service to the Retailers through effective communication and support, to maximize their profitability as well as driving loyalty through the DC and approved suppliers.
Focus Areas for the Position:
• Develop excellent ‘value adding’ consulting relationship with our retailers
• Provide retailers specialist advice on all matter relating to butchery including layout & display, innovation of new lines, drop shipment suppliers, promotions, production planning, stocktaking, value added lines, Fresh Studio usage, staffing and best practices.
• Evaluate and assess butchery staff training needs and conduct in-house training through workshops or one-on-one training in conjunction with our suppliers.
• Conduct hygiene and safety inspections with each visit to the Retailers.
• Keep up to date with current legislation effecting safety and hygiene as well as food labeling.
• Perform the communication link between marketing and retail operations and retailers regarding meat/ butchery issues.
• To work closely with meat buyer to grow loyalty and DC/Drop shipment purchases by performing monthly loyalty analysis.
• To use the figures provided by the meat buyer to identify opportunities relating to growth and loyalty by store and report back to team members monthly.
• Drive relationships with our suppliers and meet with them regularly in conjunction with the buyer.
• Product development – continually work on new products and new concepts to ensure that the company remains at the forefront of the meat industry.
• Share amongst all stores new ideas picked up through store visits so best practice opportunities gain traction.

Knowledge Competencies:
• Matric certificate
• A butchery related qualification
• Excellent butchery technical skills
• Minimum five years’ experience in Butchery management
• Excellent training and coaching skills
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Capable of designing the layout for a butchery and sourcing equipment
• In depth understanding of the meat trade and current market conditions
• Financial / business acumen
• In depth understanding of specific market needs in KZN
