The successful candidate will report to the Engineering Manager and amongst others, responsibilities will include:
Key Results Areas:
• Installs, maintains, repairs, overhauls, calibrates and tests a wide variety of industrial instrumentation that record, indicate, control and regulate level, flow, pressure, temperature, position and water analysis.
• Troubleshoots industrial networks and process control systems, maintains a functional knowledge of the operation of the industrial networks and process control systems.
• Makes periodic preventative maintenance inspections of all control instruments, diagnosing existing or potential trouble; cleans, lubricates, calibrates and adjusts as conditions indicate.
• Lays out, install and place into service new industrial networks and process control systems.
• Reads and interprets loop, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and specifications in making installations or performing major repair work.
• May make estimates of labour, materials, and supplies as necessary for the performance of specific assignments.
• Keeps records; makes verbal and written reports of work performed.
• May direct the work of the Instrument personnel or others on specific projects, and coaches and trains less-experienced Instrument personnel and others on the procedures of the work.
• Performs the repairs and testing work requiring higher-level knowledge, skills, and abilities, and serves as a technical resource to others.
• Calibrating as required; may extend or connect related electrical circuits.
• Negotiate in the company’s interest with suppliers of equipment and services to ensure optimum plant efficiency at optimum cost.
• Standby and call out duty.
Qualification:
• National Diploma Electrical Engineering - Preferred
• Trade tested Instrumentation Mechanician with a N6 - Minimum
Experience:
• Have minimum 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Computer literate and have a good working knowledge of MS Office and Windows operating systems.
• Industrial networks
• SCADA – Specifically Wonderware products suite knowledge and experience.
• PLC programming in preferably all standard IEC languages, Schneider product experience would be an advantage
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Knowledge of: The safe use of a wide variety of hand and power tools.
• Test equipment as related to field and bench work; and safe work practices.
• Skill in: Inspecting, testing, repairing, installing industrial instrumentation and controls according to established procedures and standards, reading instruments accurately; working from and interpreting loop, wiring and mechanical drawings; use of hand and power tools and equipment to test and calibrate instrumentation and controls.
• Making estimates of labour and materials.
• Ability to: Communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships. Keep accurate, complete records and prepare reports.
• Knowledge of: The theory of programmable logic controllers, SCADA, man machine interface software and hardware, and industrial networks.
• Skill in: Diagnosing and making changes to PLC and SCADA software and hardware.
• Coaching and training less-experienced Instrument personnel and others on the procedures of the work.
• Directing less-experienced Instrument personnel and others on the specific procedures of the work.
• Ability to: Be a resource to others on the technical aspects of the work
