About the job:
OUR CLIENT has a vacancy for a Centre Head in the Integrated Energy Research Centre. The incumbent will be responsible for leading a world-class integrated Energy Research Centre. She/he will be responsible for the articulation of the strategic vision of the energy R&D, creating a world-class Centre for Energy Research and providing leadership in the implementation of the strategy. This position is based in Pretoria.
Key responsibilities:
• Lead a world-class integrated energy research centre;
• Lead and oversee the development, as well as implementation of the OUR CLIENT’s five-year energy R&D strategy; thus ensuring alignment with the Our Client’s goals and national priorities;
• Contribute to the development and the strategic direction of the Our Client;
• Provide thought leadership guided by an Our Cliental culture to realising the national imperatives;
• Recruit and retain the highest calibre of science, engineering and technology (SET) staff;
• Establish a balanced portfolio mix of energy research, development and demonstration activities and a healthy intellectual property portfolio;
• Create long-term strategic and collaborative relationships with industry, and government partners, world-leading research institutes;
• Ensure financial sustainability and operational excellence.
Qualifications, skills and experience:
• A doctoral degree in science or engineering;
• Ten years’ experience in the energy sector, of which at least five years should be in industry;
• Extensive knowledge of the energy field;
• Programme and portfolio management skills;
• Strategy development and implementation skills;
• Record of developing industrial relationships for technology development and deployment;
• Record of attracting funding for large R&D programmes;
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically;
• Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire others to action;
• Record of delivering against operational and strategic objectives
