We are looking for an outstanding CEO candidate for one of the largest Underwriting Management Agencies (UMA) in South Africa, specialising in the full spectrum of personal lines insurance, including HNW, motor and general business. The role will include liaising with the risk carrier, reinsurers, service providers, regulatory agencies, brokers and clients. The candidate will be responsible for managing the day to day activities of the business, setting and achieving strategic goals and generally inculcating a drive and passion for the business in staff.

Obtaining shareholding in this business is possible, based on the achievement of pre agreed performance goals.


Qualification:

Bachelor's Degree in Insurance or related Business Administration, Finance, Economics field

Key Individual Exam 1 or Representative Exam 5 certification

A Management qualification


Skills & Experience:

At least 10 years personal lines insurance experience, preferably with a large insurer or specialist UMA

A good solid track record of general management experience of a business with turnover in excess of R50million per annum

With the assistance of actuarial support, has experience in ensuring ‘correct’ pricing of insurance products

A good grasp of financial management and accounting matters

Oversight of insurance product development and enhancements

Marketing expertise and ability

Strong strategic thinking capability

General experience in the following areas: marketing, underwriting and claims management, IT system knowledge, financial literacy and risk management.

Has previously dealt on executive and board level

Management experience of a staff compliment of at least 50 people

Has worked with brokers in the South African insurance market and has developed a well-diversified broker network

A thorough understanding of the compliance requirements in the short term insurance industry

Strong knowledge of insurance and underwriting concepts and processes.

Expertise with various computer applications and software

Experience as company spokesperson with exposure in print, social and TV/Radio will be considered an added advantage


Job Description:

Formulating and successfully implementing company policy

Directing strategy towards the profitable growth and operation of the company

Developing strategic operating plans that reflect the longer-term objectives and priorities established by the board

Further developing the IT strategy to enable the company to capitalise fully on its in-house IT system and other technology developments

Maintenance of and ability to develop strong broker relationships

Maintaining an ongoing dialogue with the Board

Ensuring that operational planning and financial control systems continue to be effective

Ensuring that the operating objectives and standards of performance are not only understood but owned by the management and other employees

Closely monitoring the operating and financial results against plans and budgets

Taking remedial action where necessary and informing the board of significant changes;

Maintaining the operational performance of the company

Assuming full accountability to the board for all company operations

Representing the company to major customers and professional associations

Building and maintaining an effective executive team

Ensure that technology and systems used in the Company are adequate to properly run the business and for it to compete through the efficient use of its assets, processes and human resources;

Identify key risk areas and key performance indicators of the business in order for the Company and to generate economic profit, so as to enhance shareholder value in the long term;

To maintain the strong brand presence the business has already established.
