Role Mandate:
The Chief Financial Officer must act as business advisor to the CEO and Executive Committee (EXCO) on all strategic matters, this includes the development of a financial and operational strategy, ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve the Group’s assets and report accurate financial results. The role is accountable for administrative, financial, risk and compliance requirements as well as maintaining good corporate governance for the Forestry Group. The role is also responsible to oversee the development of the ICT strategy and ensure that all necessary systems to support operations and strategic objectives are in place for the Forestry Group.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop, manage and oversee the implementation of the Group Financial Strategy in accordance with Forestry Group Strategy 
  • Ensure financial and commercial sustainability and viability of the Forestry Group
  • Provide regular reporting and feedback to the CEO, EXCO and the Board on the financial performance of the Forestry Group
  • Manage the financial wealth and health of the Forestry Group in accordance with International Best Practices
  • Provide financial inputs on the business cases developed to ensure a sustainable long term forestry business
  • Manage the Forestry Group financial management and controls to ensure sound business application 
  • Manage the Forestry Group cash position by making financing and investment decisions
  • Ensure and manage that the Forestry Group financial statements and reports are produced accurately and timeously in accordance with the financial calendar
  • Oversee, manage and ensure sound and accurate financial statements, annual financial reports, and other information/financial reporting of the Forestry Group are in accordance to GAAP, IFRS and the requirements of the PFMA.
  • Oversee, develop, manage and monitor the implementation of control systems to ensure that financial and business risks are minimised 
  • Oversee and manage the audit process and position of the Forestry Group with external auditors
  • Oversee and manage that the Finance division maintains a financial record systems 
  • Oversee and manage the automation of financial systems and processes 
  • Ensure that Group Finance appropriately provides financial advice and support to the Forestry Group 
  • Ensure that the Forestry Group Tax position is optimised 
  • Oversee, manage and ensure compliance to all statutory requirements
  • Oversee, manage and ensure Supply Chain Management is in line with the Shareholder’s Compact and within required regulatory frameworks such as the PFMA and PPPFA
  • Ensure that the Forestry Group’s financial policies, procedures and processes conform to the statutory requirements and financial regulations
  • Oversee the submission of all statutory returns and documentation and execute statutory duties in accordance to legislation 
  • Oversee the risk profile of the Forestry Group and ensure the development of Strategic and Operational Risk Registers and mitigation plans and actions thereto and report risk matters to the Audit Risk and Management Committee (ARMC) and the Forestry Board
  • Oversee the development of the Forestry Group Compliance Universe Framework
  • Oversee the development of the Fraud Detection and Prevention Framework and implementation thereof
  • Oversee the Insurance portfolio of Forestry in support of the Group’s risks
  • Oversee the development and implementation of Risk and Statutory Compliance policies and procedures
  • Manage and oversee the production and submission of Forestry Group statutory reports and documentation
  • Oversee, produce and manage the necessary financial management reports for utilisation by the CEO, EXCO and the Board 
  • Oversee and ensure the development and implementation of the Group ICT Strategy aligned to the Forestry Group Strategy
  • Oversee and ensure the development, maintenance and implementation of sound and integrated ICT architecture
  • Oversee and ensure the implementation of established ICT services framework and ICT policies and procedures
  • Oversee and ensure the development of ICT Risk and Governance framework and the development and implementation of appropriate mitigation plans for all identified risks
  • Ensure that all Finance employees and direct reports have signed performance agreements and conduct performance appraisals 
  • Ensure succession planning of key and critical positions within the Finance division and other talent management interventions
  • Lead, coach and develop high performance of the financial management team
  • Create an engaging, motivating and conducive working environment for finance employees and direct reports

Qualifications & Experience:

  • A post graduate qualification in finance (NQF 7) and registration as a CA(SA) with SAICA
  • Management/Leadership development programme will be an added advantage
  • At least eight (8) years’ relevant experience of which at least five (5) years’ experience at a Senior Management level
  • Valid driver’s licence
