Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12
• Safety-related qualifications (National Diploma Safety Management)
• Comsoc 1 and 2 or Samtrac qualification
• Hazard Identification and Risk Asessment
• 5 years’ mining experience (experience as a Shift Boss will be advantageous)
• Medical Certficate of Fitness
• Valid Blasting Certificate

Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervise peformance of Safety Officers and Safety Representatives
• Perform the duties of a Chief Safety Officer, as prescribed in the Mine Health and Safety Act (Act 29 of 1996)
• Carry out inspection of working places and machinery, as per Regulation 2.17.1 of of the MHSA on a schedule basis and make recommendations on deviations found during inspections
• Perform legal duties such as inspections, incident investigations, reporting to the Manager Mining
• Monitor the reporting of accident and investigating incidents, to determine root causes and appropriate remedial measures
• Identify hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace
• Devise and update Safety Policy, procedures, COPs, etc.
