Reporting to the Lead Civil Engineer, the incumbent must effectively delegate work to the Civil Engineering Department team. Must have good working knowledge of general civil engineering design principles in the fields of stormwater systems, earthworks, basic road, drainage systems and geotechnical systems.  

Job Description:

Mentor and manage a team of Resident Engineers and delegate work effectively in the Civil Engineering Department.
Guide and train in design and other necessary skills to engineers and technicians to ensure continuous professional development.
Good knowledge on designing, tendering, specifications and construction implications.
Understanding and illustration knowledge on the project lifecycle  (Design / construct / close out), with specific reference to design.
Document control and ISO systems within a design environment.
Reviewing project proposals and plans in order to develop project objectives; conferring with management.
Determine project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards, completing technical studies and preparing cost estimates.
Designing and conducting tests to confirm product performance.
Studying project plan and specifications, calculating time requirements, sequencing project elements in order to determine the project schedule.
Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities and resolving problems.
Control the project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes; thus recommending actions.
Ensure the smooth running of the Civil Engineering section by formulating systems.
Legal knowledge of design compliance standards.
Must have the following skills: leadership, decision-making, negotiation skills, strategizing and provide solutions to any challenge.

Minimum Requirements:

BEng (Civil) Degree (Post graduate qualification will be an advantage)
Minimum of 10 years relevant experience in engineering design, construction ie. stormwater systems, earthworks, basic road, drainage systems and geotechnical systems
Min 5 years professionally registered (ECSA)
MS Project, Autodesk related software and / or Civil Designer
Drives licence
Willing to occasionally travel to sites
