A specialist firm of consulting engineers and scientists based in South Africa who design, develop and implement innovative, practical and cost-effective solutions that are environmentally supportive are looking for a Civil Engineer to join their Engineering Hydrology Division on a permanent basis within Gauteng. The successful candidate should have a good understanding of surface water management and be able to carry out hydrological analyses and have experience with using GoldSim to develop and assess water balances.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Must have a Masters in Hydrology and Hydraulics
Must be registered as a Professional Engineer or a Candidate Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA)
Must have a 5-8 years’ practical experience with hydrological analyse and design
Must have experience with acquisition and processing of hydrological data and Catchment delineation
Must have knowledge of Hydrological parameters e.g. MAP, MAE, MAR
Must have knowledge of Surface water runoff calculations e.g. MAR, Seasonal and dry weather flows etc. or site specific catchment areas
Must have knowledge of Flood peak runoff calculations e.g. applying industry acceptable deterministic, statistical, empirical and dynamic modelling methods
Must have experience with water balance analysis and modelling e.g. principals of conservation of mass including dam sizing.
Must have experience with Reservoir and canal routing, floodline determination, Surface water impact assessment and Flood risk and flood hazard assessment.
Must have experience with Water surface backwater profiling e.g. applying the principles to be used in floodline modelling.
Must have experience with Flood attenuation e.g. whether in reservoirs or upstream of culverts, applying the principles to determine the attenuated volumes, reduced release peak flows, etc.
Must have experience with Canal flow e.g. applying hydraulic theory and principles for free surface flow and Spillway design e.g. hydraulic design and optimisation with flood routing and attenuation calculations.
Must have experience with Energy dissipating, erosion control structures and Dam break analysis.
Must have working knowledge of legislation, regulations and guidelines pertaining to water management in the mining and industrial context.
