Job Duties:
Develops project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans; conferring with management
Mentor and manage Resident Engineers
Determines project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates
Confirms product performance by designing and conducting tests
Determines project schedule by studying project plan and specifications; calculating time requirements; sequencing project elements
Maintains project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems
Controls project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes; recommending actions
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
Ensure that all employees are supplied with the relevant tools required to perform jobs
Formulate systems for smooth running of the Civil Engineering section to enable synergy and coherence.

Responsibilities / Duties:
Qualifications & Experience / Minimum Requirements:
BEng (Civil), ECSA registered PrEng. Post graduate qualifications will be an advantages. Experience in General Civil Engineering Design, i.e. stormwater systems, earthworks, basic road, drainage systems and geotechnical systems.
Minimum 10 years in engineering design, construction. Minimum 5 years after professional (ECSA) registration
Legal knowledge: Design compliance standards
Software: MS Office, MS Project, Autodesk related software and / or Civil Designer
Quality Management: ISO 9000 compliance
Language proficiency: Must be able to read, write and communicate in English
Travel: Occasional travel to site
Driver’s license: essential

Required Knowlege and Experience:
Good working knowledge on general civil engineering design principles in the fields of earthworks, basic roads, drainage, water and geotechnical aspects
Good working knowledge on designing, tendering, specifications and construction implications
Understanding and illustration knowledge on the project lifecycle (Design-construct-close out), with specific reference to design
Understanding of the importance and use of document control and ISO systems within a design environment.
Responsibilities
Delegate work effectively to the team in the Civil Engineering Department
Engage in activities which contribute to personal CPD (Continuous Professional Development) and maintain professional accreditation
Responsible for on-going informal and formal development to stay abreast of innovations in the industry
Participate in mentoring and informal training/partnering within department
Provide guidance and training in design skills and such other as necessary to engineers and Technicians under the incumbent for Continuous Professional Development.

Ensure filing systems are maintained and up to date
Ensure that employees operate within ISO standards
Ensure correct filing and signing of documents as well as necessary approvals are obtained from clients and service providers
To be aware of the chain of custody of documents/drawings.
