A Consultancy in Durban requires a Civil Technologist with experience in report writing and be able to structure a forensic report that coherently summarises information found on site and in our laboratory and link this to general theory on the subject so as to be able to express an opinion on the causes for a certain condition and the likely remedial route •Minimum: BTech / BSc Civil Engineering with at least 3 years experience. •Construction site, hands-on experience •Drivers licence •Computer literate - Outlook and MS Office (esp. Excel) •Methodical / attention to detail approach to work, acting in a “jack-of-all-trades” capacity and should be adaptable to a continuous learning curve because the nature of our work can vary considerably, from surveys in chemical plants to quality control of site work. Preferred: •Quality assurance experience •Basic quantity surveying experience •The candidate will be encouraged to develop the ability to do engineering and develop specifications for projects, including the development of Bills of Quantities and putting together tender documents and contracts, but this skill will be developed with time and initially the engineer is more likely to be involved in the data collection and implementation aspects of jobs. •Candidate should not have a problem with spending considerable periods away from home (1-6 weeks followed by long weekends, depending on job and location) as is necessary from time to time. There will be periods when this is the norm, and periods when most of the work is office based. •Candidate should be competent with report writing and able to structure a forensic report that coherently summarises information found on site and in our laboratory and link this to general theory on the subject so as to be able to express an opinion on the causes for a certain condition and the likely remedial route.
