Clinical Advisor – Cape Town

Closing Date 19th August 2014
Salary: R700 – R850 000

To provide technical assistance for implementation and evaluation of health interventions in THCA-supported sites in order to strengthen the health system and to ensure integrated TB and HIV screening, diagnosis, treatment and continuity of care.

This is a fixed-term contract position, renewable on performance. The organisation offers a total cost of employment package commensurate with experience. This position needs 1st September / 1st October 2014 Start date.

Responsibilities:
• Ensure quality clinical care in the supported facilities:
• Train and provide supervisory support to the Nurse Mentors
• Prevention of new HIV and TB infections:
• Mentor on the implementation of infection control plans
• Implement HIV and TB screening program for all staff
• Improve the diagnosis, care and adherence support for TB patients and people infected and affected by HIV:
• Support nurse mentors to assist with nurse initiated and managed antiretroviral treatment (NIMART)
• Liaise with supported districts to coordinate implementation of isoniazid preventive therapy (IPT)
• Liaise with supported districts and HR Manager to identify the need for additional clinical staff
• Build the capacity of individuals and organisations to provide optimal TB and HIV prevention and care:
• Visit each supported management area every 1-3 months to provide supervisory support to
• nurse mentors
• Ensure that nurse mentors are trained to support nurse initiated and managed antiretroviral treatment, IPT and infection control
• Procure or create educational materials for NIMART, tuberculin testing, IPT and infection control
• Oversee technical content of training modules and materials for community care workers (CCWs)
• To participate in operational research and the development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation systems to improve TB and HIV prevention and care:
• Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of the mentorship program
• Evaluate contact tracing interventions
• Evaluate interventions to optimise continuity of care
• Oversee implementation and field evaluation of new technologies (eg, Xpert MTB/Rif and Pima Point of Care CD4 machine)
• Liaise with research and Department of Health partners in evaluation of THCA activities

Requirements:
• Doctoral degree (MBChB)
• More than 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• HPCSA registered
• 5 years’ experience in TB/HIV management
• Experience in curriculum design and implementing training/mentoring programs for TB and HIV care and antiretroviral treatment.

This position is open to Foreign Nationals who are currently registered with HPCSA, Already poses a current work VISA, and whom have the right experience & qualifications.
