Pinotage Youth Development Academy develops 18 - 25 year old South Africans for employment. The students spend a year at the Academy; 40% of the programme is technical skills training, 20% is spent on work placements and 40% is personal development. We are looking for coaches to work with the students through the year long programme.

The role of the coach is to work with individuals in a professional, collaborative and outcomes driven way so that the individuals will develop personally and will therefore be able to achieve goals and function more effectively.

At the end of the year students need to:
1. Have grown their emotional intelligence and be able to demonstrate personal growth;
2. Be work ready and have a clear plan to advance economically;
3. Have the ability to continuously learn and grow; and
4. Have the ability to influence others and pay it forward.

Coaching will primarily be a support structure for the students and the coaching goals need to support these programme deliverables. Within that the individual goals will be specific to them and will be worked at their coaching sessions. They have various learning processes and assessments which will feed into their coaching process.

Our coaches need to have some track record, an ability to connect with diverse individuals, and a belief in the equality and talent of all humans.

The coaching process will consist of the following elements:
• coaching students will usually take place one-on-one
• should group coaching be required this will be contracted to specifically
• at a time that is agreed by the Academy in advance and at a place that is mutually beneficial
• coaching will commence after the first month of any programme and would usually be 1 to 2 sessions per student per month (a session would usually be one hour)

The coaching contract will be:
• a total of 10 hours of coaching per student
• a 12 month commitment
• coaching 2-3 individuals
• report issues by exception to Student Support and to attend a face-to-face Coaching meeting 3 times over the year.

Other issues:
• Coach / student selection: we will allocate coaches to students and will handle any “mis-match” on an ad hoc basis
• Coaches will be paid R100 per coaching session per student
• For best practice each coach should have a supervisor outside of the Academy’s process
• Coaching meetings of all coaches will be held 3 times per year and facilitated by PYDA
• Coaching needs to be goal oriented and based on Positive psychology
• All content of coaching sessions are confidential although generic themes will be shared
• Coaches need to be aware of the need for a level of detachment
• Communication will occur between the parties as and when needed
• There will be ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the process and feedback will be requested from all involved
