Are you presentable, courteous with customers and road users, organised and committed to delivering service excellence? Our client, a logistics Company based in Western Cape (Bellville) has a Code 14 Driver position available. The incumbent will be required to carry out all tasks in a safe and efficient manner and to be responsible for all operations inside and outside the vehicle.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To be courteous to customers and other road users.
  • Report to Control Room at specified time and collect instructions and paperwork.
  • Ensure vehicle is Dangerous Goods compliant and road worthy by conducting a pre-trip inspection on the vehicle and record details on the vehicle checklist.
  • Report all defects to control.
  • Assist with any other duties when the vehicle is not in operation.
  • Ensure that the following is filled correctly i.e. diesel, engine oil, water, hydraulic oils, brake fluid, steering oil is filled to the correct levels and report any excessive usage.
  • Ensure that lights are clean and in working order and also ensure that chevron and reflective tape are visible on both the vehicle and trailer
  • Ensure that vehicle (s) is fitted with a valid license. C.O.R and operator’s card discs and ensure that they are properly displayed.
  • Ensure that the radio is in a working condition before leaving the depot.
  • Ensure that all equipment necessary for the daily operation is carried on the vehicle e.g. placard boards, Tremcards, designated space (orange box), manifests, P.P.E, nets, tarpaulins, piping, couplings and emergency equipment etc.
  • Note expiry date of fire extinguishers.
  • Report breakdowns and delays to control when they occur.
  • Ensure that the vacuum pump is working properly when doing a tanker job. Assist with handling of hose/piping.
  • Ensure all lifting equipment is in working order before departing the depot.
  •  Report all spillages to control and to the customer and clean up the spillage before leaving the customer’s premises.
  • Provide a professional service to the customer when performing work.
  • Ensure that the manifest/DGD is properly signed by yourself and the customer before leaving the customer’s premises and that times for standby or pumping are accurately completed.
  • Report all customer queries and complaints to the supervisor or to control.
  • Change wheels on route if required.
  • Report all incidents /accidents to control or supervisor.
  • Note the condition of bins and report poor quality bins to control
  • Clean the inside of the vehicle on completion of shift.
  • Conduct a post-inspection of vehicle at the end of shift.
  • Ensure that all equipment is removed from the vehicle i.e. tarps, nets gloves, hardhat etc.
  • Ensure that proper loading and off-loading procedures are adhered to at all times.
  • After completion of your day’s operation :
  • Confirm job completion with control
  • Check what size container to load onto vehicle
  • Fill vehicle up with diesel
  • Remove all papers and documents from cab and hand them to Control
  • Return all placards and loan items
  • Ensure all equipment is removed from the vehicle and safely stored (i.e. tarps, nets, gloves, hard hat, etc)
  • Park your vehicle in the designated parking area.
  • Switch off  your radio
  • Report all defects to Control at the end of your shift
  • Report all arrival and departure times at customers and landfill or recycling sites.
  • Be available to work night shift as and when required.
  • Uphold the company image by being neat and presentable, keeping the uniform supplied to you clean and wearing it with pride, and being courteous to customers.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • ABET Level 4
  • Valid Code 14 (EC) Drivers license
  • Conveyance of Dangerous Goods by Road training certificate (available for inspection)
  • 3-5 years Code 14 ultra motor vehicle driving experience (EC)
  • Must be able to communicate, read and write clearly and professionally in English
  • Must be able to get to and fro from work at all times
  • Must be 25 years or older.
