A statutory body constituted in terms of the Competition Act, No 89 of 1998 by the Government of South Africa empowered to investigate, control and evaluate restrictive business practices, abuse of dominant positions and mergers in order to achieve equity and efficiency in the South Africa is currently looking for a Commission Spokesperson.

Salary: R 898 778
Five year fixed term contract – Successful incumbent will be required to enter into a performance contract

The position of Commission Spokesperson will provide the incumbent with an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on the South African economy. The successful candidate will lead media liaison for the Commission, be part of its Executive Committee. The incumbent should possess very strong leadership capabilities, function at a strategic level, and also possess the ability to drive operations

Key performance areas
• Serve as spokesperson for the Commission and maintain media source for all media contacts.
• Manage the Commissioner’s media liaison and act as the Commissioner’s representative on media matters
• Engage in media relations by actively managing professional relationships with local and international media
• Host media engagement sessions and supporting public relations
• Develop media relations engagement policies, crisis communication and other media protocols to support the communications function of the Commission
• Develop key messages for the media and general public
• Work closely with other business units to actively develop media relations protocols and enhance social media platforms
• Respond to media inquiries on behalf of the Commissioner, Edit and quality assure all communication from the Commissioner’s office, regardless of the mode of or target for communication, including drafting and preparing the Commissioner’s speeches and presentations
• To actively contribute to the strategic planning of the Commissioner’s Office and the Commission
• Develop media, public relations and social media programmes and oversee the implementation thereof.
Qualification / Professional Membership
• A post graduate degree or post graduate diploma in Journalism, Public Relation’s or equivalent relevant qualification.
• 10 years working experience of which 5 years must have been in the role of a spokesperson or journalist.
• Proven experience in managing and influencing key stakeholders at senior level.
• Experience within Government, Semi-Government & Public companies.
