Communication Officer - Durban

Responsibilities:

Seek opportunities to build a credible brand and raise awareness through various communication activities, campaigns and partnerships
Work cohesively with Public Relations and Digital Communications to ensure accurate exposure of internal and external projects and campaigns for the organisation
Develop and write resources/content material for specific target audiences
Assist with writing, editing and translations of various communication products, speeches, scripts etc.
Manage the production process from concept, compilation and production of printed/animated/video products with either internal designer or external agencies
Coordinate and manage the production process of corporate publications including the Annual Report and Integrated Report
Manage all Internal Communications including monthly newsletter, corporate communiques, intranet, internal events and Imbizos and improve uptake of internal communication channels
Facilitate meetings and focus groups to develop campaign plans or communication activities focussed on brand awareness and behaviour change
Plan and execute internal and external events, exhibitions and functions as part of the Communication Strategy
Provide communication advice to internal and external stakeholders on best practice
Research and evaluate communication activities and provide recommendations on improvements for both internal and external communications
Travel to reserves and projects to conduct interviews, take photographs or collect information as required
Assist Senior Manager: Communication Services with the implementation of the Communication Strategy for the organisation


Requirements:

A Formal 3 year qualification with relevant 3 years’ experience in a journalism, public relations, communication science
Knowledge of digital media platforms and use for communication
Knowledge of writing for media/crisis communication/public relations
Excellent writing and editing skills in English (preferably English mother tongue).
Excellent writing and editing skills in second language (either Afrikaans or isiXhosa)
A valid code 8 driver’s license
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Attention to detail
Ability to work in a small team
