Our client in the Material Science and Manufacturing industry is looking for a Computer Researcher in their Mechatronics and Micro Manufacturing group. You will assist with activities related to research, development, innovation, and application in the areas of vision systems and/or pattern recognition by using their programming and research skills. They are currently focussing on projects in Robotics, Vision Systems and Intelligent manufacturing systems. Outputs and impact are achieved through innovative products delivered to the market place.

Qualification, skills and experience required for this position are:
• A bachelor of science or engineering degree or equivalent qualification in electronic/computer engineering or related field. A master’s degree or equivalent qualification in electronic/computer engineering will be a distinct advantage.
• Five years relevant work experience (i.e. computer vision / pattern recognition / image processing applications / research) and programming experience in at least three of the following programming languages: C, C++, C#, Python, Java, PHP, SQL, HTML, XML, PHP and JavaScript.
• Working experience in some of the following areas will be an advantage:
o Data mining,
o Computer vision libraries (OpenGL, OpenCV),
o Database technologies (MySQL, PostgreSQL),
• Experience in multi-operating systems (windows / linux) is a prerequisite.
• Knowledge and practice of the software development life-cycle is essential.
• Ability to interact and communicate efficiently with diverse teams of people, including researchers, analysts, developers, engineers and clients.
• Ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment while working accurately and meticulously.
• Pro-activeness and the ability to contribute towards positive group dynamics is essential.

Responsibilities
• Work in collaboration with researchers, engineers and other team members in the research and application Vision Systems and Pattern Recognition Systems in various application areas
• Complete technical and/or research output-related tasks (e.g. co-develop software and/or hardware systems which utilise existing and new technologies).
• Publish, report on, and document technical and/or research output-related tasks.
• Deliver assignments on brief (on budget and on time) as per project expectations.
• Keep up with the latest trends and innovations in this technological space.
• Adhere to project, research and technical quality standards and methodologies.
• Supervise vacation students and interns.

Salaries will be calculated according to qualifications and applicable experience.
