Job purpose and summary

The project manager will be responsible for defining, planning, tracking and managing the construction of an office building and a campus for the entire life-cycle of the project, from submissions and approvals, scope, cost, time, procurement, quality, contracts, administration, technical support and design integration.

The project manager will also be working closely with other building specialists, such as architects, engineers, and a variety of trade workers, including electricians, plumbers and carpenters.

Primary duties and responsibilities (but not limited to):

Manage the total project life cycle from conception to completion
Develop a cost-effective plan and schedule for completion of projects following a logical pattern for utilization of resources.
Track and control construction schedule and associated costs to achieve completion of project within time and allocated
Oversee all onsite and offsite constructions to monitor compliance with building and safety regulations
Manage Health, Safety and Environmental programs on site
Coordinate and direct construction workers and subcontractors
Analyse, manage, mitigate and escalate any risks that may occur
Ensure quality construction standards and the use of proper construction techniques
Manage the procurement process for the project
Manage quality assurance
Report to management on project progress and any necessary modifications of plans
Build and manage internal and external stakeholder relationships
Manage and coordinate the completion of all required project documentation and reporting within specified deadlines, including minutes, progress reports, management reports, quality reports, and monthly reports
Ensure proper administration of construction contracts and take responsibility for obtaining all necessary permits and licenses
Ensure timely communication of project status and issues, and maintain technical and administrative control for projects

Minimum requirements

Grade 12 or equivalent certificate essential
BSc degree in construction management and quantity surveying, architecture, or related field
Project management qualification highly advantageous
5+ years’ project management experience within a construction environment
Multi-level building construction experience essential
Quantity surveying experience essential
Accreditation with professional bodies such as ACPM and SACPMCP is highly advantageous
Knowledge of local building legislations (codes) and other related requirements
Advanced knowledge of construction management processes, means and methods
Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act
Valid driver’s license and own reliable transport
