Corporate Communications Manager

The successful candidate will be reporting directly to the General Manager: Commercial and Business Development.

The Purpose of the role: Responsible for external and internal communication mediums to raise appropriate brand awareness of the organisation. To position the CTICC as one of the world’s leading convention centres.

Key responsibilities will include:

? To manage the communications and public relations strategy of the CTICC

External communications/public relations

• Develop and implement an external communications strategy that is aligned to the CTICC’s vision, key objectives and values.
• Execute all public relations for the CTICC and develop a proactive media relations strategy.
• Prepare and disseminate press releases, media relations content and case studies to raise the profile of the CTICC local and internationally.
• Prepare and edit electronic and traditional CTICC publications for external audiences.
• Co-ordinate PR coverage of CTICC; plan and execute key media events.
• Oversee quality and consistency of media and visual communication.
• Build and maintain relationships with the local, national and international media (industry specific and mainstream).
• Profile the CEO, Executive Management and key specialist positions in the media.
• Compile appropriate speeches and presentations for Executive Management.
• Initiate advertorial opportunities for the CTICC with relevant editorial content

Digital Communication

• Develop a website content strategy every two years and ensure that all content meets the positioning and brand promise of the CTICC’s vision.
• Manage the CTICC website proactively and introduce new media technology applications, geared at enhancing the user experience.

Social Media

• Develop a social media communication and digital strategy for the CTICC and implement new social media platforms.
• Produce high-quality online content for key social media platforms.
• Manage all social media accounts and oversee response strategy to online queries and comments.
• Collaborate with the marketing department to ensure maximum reach and exposure for all targeted marketing campaigns.

CTICC Expansion Project Communication

• Develop and execute an expansion communication strategy to raise awareness of the CTICC expansion including its scope, necessity and socio economic benefits.
• Ensure a broad public understanding of the expansion of the convention centre through regular focused communication with key target markets and ensuring that detailed relevant information is available to all interested parties.
• Plan and execute strategic media and stakeholder events around key milestones in the project.
• Maintain and build relationships with building and construction industry media.

Internal communication

• Collaborate with the Human Resources Manager to develop and manage an internal communication strategy.

? Stakeholder Management

• Develop and maintain stakeholder and industry relationships to promote the aims and objectives of CITCC.
• Maintain relationships with the head of media for the City of Cape Town, the Western Cape Government and relevant Government Departments.
• Identify opportunities and events to promote and build relationships and represent CTICC on key regional industry communication platforms.
• Maintain a comprehensive qualitative stakeholder database.
• Manage and execute all key stakeholder events for the CTICC, such as the Annual General Meeting and press events.
• Maintain and manage the CTICC’s VIP courtesy card customer relationship management programme.

? Project Management

• Responsible for all communications department projects according to time and costs frameworks
• Manage service providers and relevant agencies in terms of resource and production management

? Record Management

• Manage the collection and archiving of relevant press clippings in order to build historical information for the CTICC.
• Maintain and build up an image library. Ensure that all relevant events are photographed; collaborate with the marketing department

Qualifications and Experience: A degree/diploma/Btech in Journalism/Public Relations; Min of five years’ experience in delivering strong, written content across a full range of media; Minimum of five years Management experience. Experience in executing public relations activities; Strong established media contact network and database; Experience in online and social media writing;

An understanding of effective media relations strategies, both reactive and proactive;
Strong project management skills and experience in website upgrade and annual report projects. Experience in reputational media management will be advantageous.


The ideal candidate will have excellent English written and verbal communication skills. The ability to customise communication for different media platforms. An understanding of how new technology can be deployed in communication programmes. Proven competency in liaising with the media as well as experience in preparation of editorials and speeches. Executing all external, internal and social media strategies. Strong project management competency.
