Location: Cape Town
Description: A manufacturer in the cosmetics industry requires a Research and Development Manager to join their team. Key duties will include: Developing cutting edge skin care products to meet the demand of a growing global brand; development of the strategic plan; overall management of the R&D laboratory team; development of manufacturing processes for all formulations on all relevant production equipment; overseeing and running of pilot plant, scale up and production trial batches; input into new equipment design or refurbishment; troubleshooting for manufacturing issues related to formulation or product and packaging interactions; Project Manager of all new product development projects as well as reformulation of existing products and changes required; ensuring that all projects are delivered on time and in line with agreed performance criteria and cost; ensuring compliance to global regulatory standards as well as safety of existing and new formulations; training and development of R&D and production staff on process methods, factory equipment, manufacture of new formulations etc; responsible for performance management of R&D staff; responsible for ensuring the compilation and updating of relevant R&D documentation.
Key Requirements: BSc Chemistry Honours degree with at least 3 years R&D experience within the pharmaceutical industry, food industry or cosmetics industry required. Previous project and staff management experience essential. Packaging development and Coschem Diploma will be an advantage.
Additional Requirements: Ability to work on several projects simultaneously with attention to detail and within time lines; continuous improvement focus, excellent leadership skills; strong driver; excellent communication skills; proficient with MS Office and Process Mapping Software.
Remuneration: Market related
