COUNTRY MANAGER – MOZAMBIQUE

Our Client is the leading and largest provider of steel roofing in Africa with a total of 30 operations in 11 African countries, including Mozambique. They started operations in 2008 and have grown from the original business in Maputo to two additional operations in Beira and Nacala. Between the three plants they employ around 55 people.
As the Country Head for Mozambique, you will direct, manage and control the business strategies and plans. You will provide appropriate leadership and promote good relations with all stakeholders in support of the overall business strategy, plans and objectives of the Company.

The key challenges that will be faced by the new Country Manager will be to:
• Increase sales
• Improve cashflow
• Reduce stockholding
• Improve staff morale
• Coach, train and develop staff

The ideal candidate will also be expected to:
• Speak Portuguese or have the willingness and ability to learn it within a short period of time
• Regularly travel in Mozambique and into the rest of Africa
• Have experience of running a business as a Country Manager, ideally in an African Country.
• Have experience in selling and promoting relevant products to merchants, traders, retailers, building professionals, property developers,
government departments and consumers.

The successful candidate should display the following:
• Graduate level of intellect, preferably with a higher degree in a management discipline or a professional qualification;
• A proven record of success at a senior-level in general commercial management, or marketing;
• At least 10 years senior-level experience of management of people and resources;
• 3-5 Years in a senior Management role;
• Extensive knowledge and experience working in Southern Africa;
• Knowledge of the roofing/building industry would be an added advantage;
• An understanding of sales/marketing management and wider management principles and techniques;
• Political and presentational skills with an appreciation of the demands of conflicting interests and of meeting statutory requirements;
• A very high level of financial and commercial awareness;
• Ability to lead and drive changes;
• Leadership skills;
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills at the highest level;
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
• Ability to handle and manage cultural diversity.
