Salary: R900 000 – R1 500 000 p/a

An international healthcare organization is currently looking to appoint a Country Programme Director to institutional alignment to meet country needs, orchestrating integrated execution, enabling sustainable program design, sourcing innovation locally and harnessing best practices and best in class learning's from abroad, and ensuring that donors’ investments through demonstrate value for money.

The Country Director is responsible for business development to enable a diversified and sustainable portfolio and for quality execution of solutions and projects across all of platforms. You will also nurture the right partnerships and evidence development to ensure local to global impact wherever possible. The Director will endeavour to earn the recognition as the leading NGO in global health innovation, especially in the development and commercialization of devices and diagnostics. Other strategic objectives for the company in South Africa include improved health outcomes for women and children, strengthen implementation science around selected integrated HIV/TB prevention, treatment, care and support interventions, access, use and acceptance of sexual and reproductive health services as well as contribute to the prevention and management of non-communicable diseases. The Country Director is based in Johannesburg, South Africa and will report to Managing Director of International Programs.

Education, Training and Experience
• MBBCH Degree
• HPCSA Registered
• Advanced degree in public health, medicine or related field.
• Advanced technical competency in at least one of key programmatic areas (i.e. Maternal Child Health and Nutrition, HIV/TB, Non-communicable diseases, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and / or technology innovations).
• NGO Experience
• Advanced degree in business management or
• 10+ years’ experience as leader of a mid-large organization.
• Track record of creating high performing and adaptable teams.
• Written and oral fluency in English.

Key performance areas
The country director drives country strategy, regional approach and takes innovation to scale by:

• Engaging in collaborative, strategic, programmatic and budget planning with peers across the organization
• Aligning programmatic work to strategies and priorities through effective change management, communication and informing
• Creating a clear link for employees to see their work relating to over mission, strategies and priorities
• Effectively gathering intelligence and conducting regular landscape analyses of countries/regions
• Connecting global health trends with an understanding of the landscape/trends in South Africa to make programmatic decisions
• Representing and leveraging full technical offerings and capabilities in the public health community
• Leveraging technical expertise and leadership in policy advocacy





Understands and manages business by:

• Creating and leveraging strong relationships and networks both in-country and regionally
• Convening and engaging staff as well as partners, donors, and others to collaborate or coordinate efforts
• Managing grantee/partner performance and building our partners’ capacity
• Seeks and wins funding opportunities aligned with company strategy and priorities that help drive innovations to scale
• Establishes sustainable relationships with donors, partners and governments to increase impact long-term
• Defines new engagement/business models to diversify revenue streams and impact paradigms
• Secures, leverages, and shares internal resources to ensure projects are completed successfully and efficiently
• Ensures compliance, and competitive costs when sourcing, procuring and/or contracting outside of the company
• Identifies and manages financial, legal, and technical risks for the organization and escalates risk issues appropriately
• Monitors both technical work and budgets to end projects on time, on budget and according to applicable policies/restrictions
• Manages media and public relations to highlight contributions and impact
• Works with leadership to effectively manage crises and conflicts
