THE ROLE DESCRIPTION
The person will join an established Data Governance team working with the Lead Data Governance facilitator, engaging with Data Stewards across the enterprise to continuously promote and mature Data Governance as well as other Data Management disciplines.

While the facilitator role is not a strategic level role, the person will work closely with strategic leaders on the implementation of Data Governance policies and frameworks that will deliver outcomes of policy requirements and working with the business units and enterprise functions on a day-to-day basis. Extensive insight into the business and the data are essential.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understand and align to any existing Data Governance frameworks used in the bank.
- Guide and champion the information lifecycle processes, tools and programs.
- Run with adhoc projects as allocated by the Data Governance Manager.
- Participate in new initiatives to ensure that resulting solutions are designed to maintain and/or improve existing data management capabilities.
- Work in a SME capacity to educate and advise the stakeholders as well as business partners about best practices and ensure continuous alignment and integration with data governance frameworks.
- Identify and drive changes that are necessary to improve data management in the organisation.
- Review and Maintain Definitions, Standards and Business Rules for data.
- Review and Maintain lists of Data Owners and Consumers for data.
- Review and Maintain Data Lineage diagrams illustrating the dissemination of data.
- Review and Maintain Quality Criteria and tolerances for data.
- Identify, measure and report on data anomalies and trends.
- Utilize information management tools as well as various data sources, to uncover and determine root causes of data issues.
- Produce dashboards and/or reports to represent data quality levels and progress on any initiatives underway.
- Work with different stakeholders (business, origination, legal, compliance etc.) to gather requirements, identify and create new processes and data governance controls
- Performs data analytics on information by profiling and checking for validity, volatility, standardisation and accuracy of data
- Periodically review and provide input into the content of the various data dictionaries
- Present findings and provide recommendations for corrective action.

- Knowledge / Technical Skills / Expertise
o Exposure to various Business units within Corporate banking environment to have gained the necessary business experience for the job.
o Basic understanding of company law & banking practices
o Basic understanding of regulatory requirements e.g. FICA, FATCA etc.
o Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws .e.g. POPIA.
o Previous work experience - minimum scope for error, awareness of risks
o Exposure to a wide variety of banking systems
o Exposure to the client creation processes
o Familiar to ISO 9001
o Understanding of the risks associated with substandard data and the drawing up of the relevant risk map.
o Ability to organize data for meaningful analysis, Excel or equivalent skills strongly preferred.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:
• A formal degree/qualification would be an advantage
• Data management qualifications would be an advantage
• 3 years' experience working at an enterprise level with customer and reference data.
• 3+ years' experience in the Banking Industry
