Main purpose of the job
To oversee all data management aspects of multiple studies at RMPRU, including study documentation,
timelines and staffing to ensure data integrity.

Location
RMPRU , Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.

Key performance areas
Develop and maintain database, including some programming in database systems such as Microsoft Access
and SAS.
Develop and revise Data Management Plan ensuring input and approval from relevant functions.
Supervise the data capturing team.
Monitor data entry for validity and data integrity by running data validation reports. Analyse the results from the
quality control activities to ensure that data quality is not put at risk and apply remediation activities if/when
required.
Liaise with the study officers at sites with respect to data queries and manage the flow of queries.
Develop, define and manage DM related timelines, deliverables and performance metrics with the study team.
Assess and forecast trial progress and communicate expectations/ deliverables in terms of study milestones.
Participate in trial initiation meetings and or study team meetings to discuss logistical aspects of the trials.
Support other function activities.
Required minimum education and training
B.Sc / BA Degree in biological sciences or related disciplines in the natural sciences/ health care field,
epidemiology or public health or equivalent plus a minimum of 2 years directly related management
experience.

Required minimum work experience
Research experience (especially in study design e.g. experience in management of Phase I-IV studies)
In – depth knowledge of data management procedures, process and best practises.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of Good Clinical Practise beneficial.
Knowledge of case report form development and an understanding of the relationship between data
collection, database design, and data delivery to Biostatistics.

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities.
Effective oral and written communication skills, presentation skills and attention to detail.
Knowledge of statistical packages e.g. STATA, SAS, EpiInfo or equivalent.
Ability to multitask under deadlines and work as part of a multidisciplinary team as well as independently.
