Description

The purpose of the role is as follows:
• Develops data models to meet the needs of an organisation’s information systems.
• As a major contributor to enterprise architecture, the data analyst has ownership of how data is modelled, stored, shared and manipulated by application design, both at a project and enterprise level.
• This individual must have strong verbal and written communications skills and will work in an organization of Data Architects, supporting Data Warehousing Developers, Web Developers and Report Writers.
• This individual will work closely business teams and customers to capture meaningful data definitions, build data models, and document results and collaborate throughout project life cycles.

• Data design and data modelling on multiple complex projects.
• Responsible for target data design, source to target mappings, metadata capture and model maintenance.
• Align project data designs to enterprise-level models and plans, first during the analysis phase and subsequently in the design and build phases when constructing a set of lower-level data models to support project commitments.
• Collaborating with developers to modify or create source to target mapping suitable for coding and testing.
• Develop best practices for standard naming conventions and coding practices to ensure consistency of data models.
• Working with the Business Analyst and Enterprise Architect to capture data retention requirements, and the Enterprise Architect to build an archive/purge component into the design.
• Leading the delivery of logical and physical data model changes.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of enterprise data standards.
• Provide vision, leadership and strategic direction on data management and enterprise information management.
• Deliver an overall data management plan that will define, document and present master data and metadata.
• Create data dictionaries and conceptual, logical and physical data models.
• Define, develop and deliver consistent information and data standards, methodologies, guidelines, best practice and approved modelling techniques around data quality, data governance and data security.
• Ensure compliance with data privacy, data security and other key standards critical to the business.
• Partner with subject matter experts, architects and developers to capture and analyze business needs and information requirements.
• Review and evaluate unstructured data and create policies that will advise developers, designers and users on how to make this data efficiently available.
• Research data modelling standards used in today’s organization and evaluate how to best implement such standards to fit the company’s business strategies.
• Define and document business processes, information flow from origination to archive, key data elements and system of record and all data architecture artefacts as needed.
• Create and maintain data environment performance attributes in order to ensure optimal performance of the organization’s data environment.
• Document and create logical, physical and dimensional data models and mmaintain these data models along with corresponding metadata.
• Validate business data objects for accuracy and completeness.

Education & Qualification

• BSc or BCom or relevant Diploma or relevant work experience
• BI/DWH experience would be preferred

Relevant Experience
• Minimum 4-6 years’ experience in logical and physical data modelling
• Minimum 4-6 years of SQL Server or PL/SQL
• Minimum 4-6 years managing projects in the software development and/or IT environment.
• Experiences in defining processes and proof of successful implementation of required processes.
• Preferably experience in defining metrics to ensure continued measurable efficiency improvements within development and implementation teams
• Demonstrated ability to execute, design and implement data model for complex taxonomies, metadata frameworks, and templates for content management systems
• Strong conceptual, logical and physical data modelling experience
• Experience with Entity Relationship Diagrams and data modelling
• Experience working with high volume transactional databases
• Experience dealing with data security both in transit and at rest
• Demonstrated experience with current a query language (PL/SQL, SQL) and writing/maintaining scripts
• A thorough understanding of industry best practices and SOA based enterprise data architectures
• Strong problem solver with ability to evaluate a challenge and understand solution patterns
• Experience with development methodologies such as Agile and Lean
• Prior experience working on data strategy and roadmaps.
