Location: Diep River, Cape Town
Salary: R15k – R20k per month
About the Role:
Design studio offering publishing solutions, specialising in creative publication design and production for 20 years. A talented and experienced creative book designer with a thorough understanding of book publishing is required by a dynamic publications design studio in the southern suburbs. This position requires a mid-level designer who has proven experience in publication design, page layout and typesetting of long documents including the implementation of author corrections.
Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a publications/book designer
Proven technical proficiency in InDesign
Book design and page layout
Typesetting proficiency and an understanding of typography
Excellent language, writing and communications skills
A thorough understanding of the publishing process, production and print
DTP skills with a creative ability to develop and design infographics
Candidate must be patient and meticulous with an eye for detail and should have an appreciation and love of words and books as they will be required to read and understand the texts they are working with to engage professionally with editors and authors.
Technical proficiency in page layout and typesetting of long documents.
Candidate must be well-spoken and have excellent language, writing and communications skills to deal professionally with our highly academic clientele.
Duties:
A great deal of creativity and latitude is expected on the work which is predominantly the design and layout of books and covers, as well as a wide variety of corporate and research reports.
The work is varied and exciting and includes magazine layout, packaging design, posters, banners, brochures, conference and marketing material, corporate branding, graphics, development of infographics, DTP artwork and digital design.
The designer must be able to work independently and manage projects from creative concept through to print within the team structure, be able to work under pressure in a fast-paced industry with a commitment to meeting deadlines and producing excellent quality work.
